Eclipse and Jazz

Eclipse is an open source integrated development environment (IDE) for Java. However, Eclipse is described as "an open extensible IDE for anything and nothing in particular." Eclipse provides a robust Java development environment that incorporates popular tools like JUnit. But the beauty of Eclipse is in the extendibility of the platform beyond a basic java development environment through plug-ins.

The functionality of Eclipse is extended by the instillation and use of plug-ins. The Eclipse environment makes it extremely easy for a developer to add new functionality to the platform. Eclipse has several plug-in points where small applications can extend the functionality. An example of a plug-in point is the view. A programmer can create a new view to display information about the project that they are working on.

Jazz is a collaboration oriented development platform built on Eclipse.
