The work of research heros is inspiring in part because it shows what happens when one looks beyond one's own interests. Heros are visionaries; by definition they are taking into account the well-being of people beyond their circle of acquaintances. Egoism focuses narrowly on my own interests. Is this an adequate moral theory?
